Animal Feed

Feed additives for animals are a group of feed ingredients which are used in a wide range of livestock, including poultry. Feed additives can not only cause a desired animal response in a non-nutrient role such as a shift in pH, growth, or altered metabolic response of the animal, but also provide animals with essential nutrients, thus improving their growth performance. Animals are much more sensitive to smells and tastes than humans. Cows have over 20000 olfactory receptors compared to 4600 for humans. The surface area of the olfactory epithelium in wild pigs, the receptacle of odors in the nasal cavity, is 30,000 square millimeters when ours is limited to 1125 square millimeters. Experts in the feed industry have long noted that many feed additives have undesirable smells and tastes, which can lead to reduced intake by animals and a lower return on investment for producers. The use of flavors in the feed industry is a common way to improve the palatability (i.e., voluntary intake) of feeds. As a professional supplier of flavors, Alfa Chemistry has the ability to create more nutritious and healthy flavoring agents for the feed sector.

Classification of feed flavors

On the basis of form, the feed flavors market can be segmented as follows.

  • Oil-soluble liquid flavors

The aroma will be well emitted from the feed by spraying the oil-soluble liquid flavor into the pelleted feed by spraying technology. It should be noted that the volatilization and dispersion of aroma should be prevented during feed storage.

  • Powder flavors

Powder flavors are available in different forms, including adsorbed flavors and spray-dried flavors. Adsorption type is the powder obtained by adsorbing the liquid flavor on the substrate such as acacia senegal, peach gum, dextrin, cyclodextrin, cellulose, etc. Spray drying type is the powder obtained by adding colloidal substances to the liquid flavor so as to make an emulsion, and then drying it with a spray dryer. The former flavor is mainly used in porridge feeds, while the latter flavor is easy to preserve and less volatile because it is covered with colloidal substances, and is mainly used in granular feeds with a heating process.
